Estriol is an estrogen hormone, in the same family as estradiol and estrone. Though a weak estrogen, normally present in barely-detectable levels in the body, it does play an important role in post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or vaginal surgery. • Diabetes
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Epilepsy
• Heart disease

Use of estriol will depend on a number of factors when any of the above are present; which condition, how severe it is, what form of estriol will be used, and how frequently the patient can attend checkups to screen for complications. In some conditions---particularly high risk of estrogen-dependent breast cancer---estriol should not be used at all.
